Tragically Whitney Houston was plagued with the insidious demons of addiction.  How many lives must be cut short to prove that addiction and alcoholism are two progressively fatal illnesses before they are taken seriously in main-stream society? Last year we lost Amy Winehouse (another sensational soul girl). In 2009, The King of Pop, Michael Jackson overdosed and died on prescription drugs (often more lethal than street drugs and handed out like sweets by members of the medical profession). Even the King of Rock n’ Roll, Elvis Presley, was a full blown addict who died far too young.

Thankfully in America and gradually in the UK, addiction and alcoholism are being accepted as a mental and physical illness.  As someone who is personally in a number of 12 Step recovery programs, I know how cunning addiction is.  I have a number of solid years of continuous sobriety however, I cannot afford to take my foot off the gas; NOT FOR ONE MOMENT!

When a superstar dies of cancer or a heart attack or has suffered with bulimia or anorexia, many are compassionate. However, when a HUMAN BEING is hooked on street or prescribed drugs in order to mask their inner mental and emotional suffering, they are called “a waste of life” or “weak willed.” The old saying “Let he who is without sin cast the first stone” is something cynics ought to consider before passing judgement.

The way some of the media are talking about Whitney Houston in a derogative way when she has an 18 year old daughter who will be hearing these things, is callous and tasteless. Of course, most professional critics are cowards and would not have the courage to confront family members of Houston’s with their shallow remarks. It’s easy to hide behind a computer screen or behind a newspaper.

Personally, I am deeply grateful and appreciative for Whitney Houston’s life and the glorious gift she shared with us.  She touched me with her sweet Goddess voice and took the 1980s and 1990s by storm. I have many happy memories associated with her songs. One thing is certain, regardless of her personal life no one can take away the joy she brought to hundreds of millions of souls all across the world. Compassion and celebration is how I will resonate with Ms Houston. R.I.P & God bless Your Soul X

To perform in the Olympics takes tremendous courage, hard work, dedication, discipline and of course, a deep self-belief. Many different countries will be supporting their nation’s most outstanding athletes in the spirit of unity. Although the Olympics are based on competition, they usually encourage a spirit of friendliness and bring a positive energy to a city.

Looking after your body and keeping fit is essential to having a pleasant human experience. My hope is that the Olympics will inspire people to get back into running, jogging, swimming and other cardio sports which promote healthy well-being. It is also my deepest hope that young people and children will be motivated to take up sport, during and after the phenomenal event.

With less than 195 days to go, it’s a joyful time for Olympic fans!

Having grown up in the rough projects in Philadelphia, mixing in crime and gang war and admitting being a “wolf”, Hopkins has overcome incredible obstacles. In a rough “dog eat dog” prison, Bernard discovered his creativity inside the penitentiary boxing gym, which planted the seed for him to “fight a way out” of crime.  After being released from prison in 1988, he turned his attention to boxing, leaving behind his old crowd and committing himself to a new clean way of life. Ever since then, Hopkins HAS DONE JUST THAT.

Known for his unrelenting discipline, Hopkins is considered one of the greatest middle weight boxers of all time and puts enormous effort into charity work for youths in prisons and on the streets. What is quite remarkable is that at the age of 46, he is still very effective in the world of boxing, repeating the words over and over again: “Don’t discriminate against me because of my age, I can still compete.”

Society tends to put people in a box with limiting distinctions and restrictive mental labels. However, Hopkins proves to us that you’re never too young or old to start again. As long as you are breathing, you’re in with a chance.

Throughout human history, all of the wise spiritual teachers have always encouraged us to dig below the surface and uncover “The Kingdom within”. Through regular meditation and being present, we become overwhelmed with a deep sense of love, joy, peace and bliss.

Right now, in this very moment, if you are open to life, then you can feel peace and serenity. Simply focus on your breathing and get into a joyful state of gratitude on a regular basis.

Make no mistake about it, the world is changing. Science is coming to terms with the fact that it will never know all of the answers and spirituality, through a deeper understanding of science, is becoming aware of how vast life is and uncovering the wonderful design of the universe.

One thing is clear. Both sides, Deepak Choprah (spirituality) and Leonard Mlodinow (science) have a profound respect for one another. Never has there been a time, throughout human history, where spiritual teachers and scientists can agree and disagree in a harmonious conversation. For those of us who are aware of consciousness and the divinity deep within us, we can see that the collective essence of life is evolving into a more peaceful and loving world, regardless of the media painting a picture of doom and gloom.

Congratulations to Deepak Choprah and Leonard Mlodinow for writing an incredible book and coming together in the spirit of good will and harmony. Thank You!
